Hi there!
Welcome to my weebly page. Please have a look around to find out more about me and my career in early years education. You will find more information about my previous achievements, as well as current projects that I am working on in order to further develop my knowledge and skills in the profession.
My Career so far....
After completing my degree in Ancient History/Classical Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London, I knew that the only career I truly wanted was teaching. I had spent my late teenage years and university life volunteering at kids clubs, being a playworker at afterschool and holiday camps and babysitting young children. This experience showed me that my passion was for the development of young children and the powerful impact that play has upon childrens' progress and enthusiasm for learning throughout later life.
In previous jobs, I was a visual merchandiser and operations manager in a retail store, and a public speaker and outreach worker for my university so I bring the qualities of organisation, leadership, confidence and creativity to my role in teaching.
After specialising in Early Years at the University of East London, I taught for two years at an outstanding school in the London Borough of Redbridge. It is a large primary school with high expectations and standards, so it was a perfect start for me and put me on course to expect similar outcomes throughout all of my future places of employment. After that I taught for a year at the British Vietnamese International School in Hanoi, Vietnam. I was part of the founding staff of the school and worked tirelessly to build the foundations upon which the school has flourished since then. This was a very challenging role as I was teaching an Early Years/National Curriculum almost entirely in Vietnamese whilst also trying to teach the 17 3 and 4 year old non-English speaking children in my class a basic grasp of English phonics, conversation and understanding.
After a year in Year One at an academy in Waltham Forest, I have now been at School 21 since 2015 and loved every minute. As part of the Reception team, I feel that we constantly strive to provide the best environment and learning for our children and are always modifying and improving our practice to ensure that children are provided with stimulating and challenging opportunities. I began by focussing on Communication and Language in Early Years, as this was a real area for development within our school as well as Newham as a whole. As School 21 is an oracy school, it has been my aim to set much higher standards for our pupils than in other settings, as this will provide the foundations needed throughout their school life here.
I have now been leading EYFS at School 21 since September 2017. My goal has been to raise attainment through engagement, purposeful play opportunities, a well-developed team, and innovative project ideas.
